Feel the top of the world at Steavenson Falls

Whenever I feel free and on top of the world, I always remember these first two lines of the song Viva La Vida by Coldplay "I used to rule the world, Seas would rise when I gave the word". Well, this was what I felt here in Stevenson Falls.

Let me tell you something about our adventure to this place. It was early in the morning and we were just thinking of going on a hike and if I am not mistaken this was Melbourne Cup Day 2014. A perfect opportunity to go and be one with nature (It is a holiday for the working peeps :)). We thought ok, why not try something new. So we decided to go to Marysville. I heard and saw pictures of Steavenson Falls before so I decided to research online and check the Guide to Marysville. Just click on the link it will lead you to the pdf file.

Almost 2 hours of driving from Geelong, we decided to take a short break at the Reservoir. I forgot the name of the place but this is the view that we have. It was just so peaceful so we just have to stop and stare at it for a few minutes.
Water Reservoir near Marysville

Our journey took us from another half an hour to reach Steavenson falls. We went through Princess Highway and Maroondah Highway to get there. Make sure you got a GPS. as soon as you get to Marysville it can be a bit confusing and not much people around to ask so be ready to get a bit lost around the area ho ho ho. And fyi, it is way past Healesville Sanctuary. Anyway, just be street smart.

This is the sight that will greet you before you go inside to stroll and see the falls. A bit on information on the side.

Information on Steavenson Falls

This is what the falls look like from the resting area near the toilets
So, there are a few signs that will lead you to the falls.

Signs to Steavenson Falls

The view as you descend down the falls area

At the middle of the descend, there will be a staircase and a road. If you follow the staircase, it will lead you to the water turbine that operates in the area. A bit of information on how electricity is being produced via the current of the falls. Now, if you follow the road it will lead you to the foot of the falls.

The foot of Steavenson Falls

Of course, that's me enjoying the moment
Now, there are two directions that you can go to as soon as you reach the foot of the falls. On the left is the middle platform. The photo that you can see below where the two guys are (those are my two friends who came with me) is the view on the left side of the falls. They were thinking of crossing the falls (a bit stupid, I do not know why they want to do that, Hmmm but they want an adventure so who am I to stop them) but then again way too dangerous for them so they headed back to the platform LOL.

Middle Platform of Steavenson Falls

That middle platform is the dead end. What we did next is go on the right side of the trail. This is going uphill where the top of the falls is. We decided to climb up. A bit challenging if you are not that fit. (Like me) Make sure you brought water and a bit of munchies with you. Comfy shoes is a must too :). Up we went, here are some random shots of the area.

This is a tree trunk around 6-7 meters long. It fell on the side of the trail. You can go in if you are up to it

This is the view of the slope downhill, so scary so have to be careful going up because there are no railings to hold on to. Stick to the trail.
Now as soon as you reach the top bridge of the falls, this is what it looks like on the other side. So calm and peaceful. The air is a bit cold around this area and make sure you brought warm clothes with you.

So, moving up and crossing the bridge is another platform which leads you to the top of the falls. Now it's time to sing the first two lines of Viva La Vida he he he. The photo below shows the top platform where the guys are standing on.

Top View of Steavenson Falls
Now as I have said awhile ago, these guys were looking for a bit of adventure, they went down the platform where it is safest and just sat there on top of the falls. As you can see. It is very high.

Another top view of Steavenson Falls
And another stunt that they did, went over near it where the current is low and stood at the middle. The bridge at the back is the one that I was describing before.

View of the falls before the descend of water
Since we got there around 5pm already, we have to go back and rest. At night, there are spotlights that would highlight the flow of the falls, we didn't wait that long because we have to go to another place then. But I would have loved to see that :(  It was a great adventure and I wouldn't mind going back there. But maybe the next time we come, it would be on an earlier time so we can explore more of the area.

Hope this had helped you on any information that you are looking for in having a fun day around Victoria. That's all for now. Cheers!
